The trekking excursion to Vendicari Flamingos Lakes, a protected area on the South-East Coast of Sicily, transports you to another part of Sicily. Near the Iblei mountains along the south coast of the island where the Flamingos stay all the year round, we will discover a beautiful area of Marshes, pools and numerous species of birds. A multilingual expert tour guide provides a wealth of information – learn about biology, Vendicari’s unique vegetation and wildlife, as well as the rich history of South Sicily. This is a very special place and a beautiful trekking along the cost of the Ionic sea.
Full-day excursion includes:
– Beautiful landscape while going up the South part of Sicily crossing the plane of Catania and driving beside the Hyblei Mountains.
– After 140 km on the motorway we arrive in the territory of Noto where Vendicari lies. Various stops on the way to the marshes that will allow you to drink in the wondrous views and enjoy the protected area to the fullest extent.
– We will begin to watch the marsh Pantano Grande where many birds can be seen with our binoculars: Flamingos, Marsh Harriers, Osprey, Kestrel, Grey Heron, Storks, Spoonbill, Great White Egret, Little Egret, Black-winged Stilt,
Trekking towards the beach of Vendicari, the norman tower, the ancien fishing factory, the Pantano Piccolo.
– Walking further on this old path among an extraordinary vegetation, we reach the Calamosche beach where we can have a bath. Pic-nic time.
– Trekking back to the main entrance of Vendicari lakes.
We pick you up at your hotel in Taormina or Giardini Naxos at 8:00 and bring you back at 18.00. We limit our groups from 12 to 18 people in 2 or 3 jeeps. We recommend adequate clothing (it is warm in summer) your swimsuit , a pic-nic, a bottle of water and of course, your camera!
