There is an ever growing interest in this particular form of observation of the world of birds. Sicily is home to many species, both breeding and non-migratory, from birds of prey to ducks, from herons to flamingos that during the course of the year can be observed in flight or around the marshes and wetlands of the island. But it is in the spring that the magnificient spectacle of the migration of these birds of prey is impressive. Thousands of buzzards, harrier hawks, kites, eagles and falconets fly in enormous flocks high in the sky, on the timeless route that will lead them to their breeding grounds in Northern Europe. From the Egadi Islands to the Strait of Messina, where there is the highest concentration of these birds of prey, the birdwatcher fitted out with a good pair of binoculars and our Zeiss diascope 85 spotting-scope will remain wordless before this grand spectacle of nature!
